The BRUCE Gang: Audio/Video

Goodbye OCC

(Gary)
by Gary L. Bruce
I wrote and recorded this back in 1990 when Oklahoma Christian College officially became Oklahoma Christian University. I performed it at First Week Follies then again at Homecoming that year. Harold Fletcher's Alma Mater (with his permission) is heard in the melody of the introduction and toward the end of the song.
LYRICS
You were young and you were small
But as children always do you've grown up tall
You had dreams and you had plans
And you found the strength to grow
By holding to your Father's hands
And though so many things about you
Have been changing through the years
And you have been though good and bad times
Happy laughter and bitter tears
For those who know you well
Through all your changes they can tell
That you're really quite the same
Despite the growth and change of name.

So goodbye OCC this farewell's not so hard to say
Your name is changing
Like a bride changes her name on the wedding day
With one hand holding to the past the other reaching the unknown
Just like the eagle's wing that lifts her high
You're rising up to reach the sky

So goodbye OCC hello the name we know so well.

Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma Christian,
Oklahoma Christian

Lift your voices anthems raise
Swell the chorus in her praise
Hail to Oklahoma Christian
Alma Mater hail to thee.

Hail to Oklahoma Christian.
Oklahoma Christian hail to thee.
Goodbye OCC.
