A friend (Mike O.) wanted this song performed at his wedding but didn't think the harmonica in the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band version would mix well with the other wedding music (mostly a cappella). So he asked if I would record it. I transcribed a piano part and had Mike Turner play it and I sang it for him and his bride. I like the thought of viewing people or circumstances, even when not pleasant or perfect, as part of what leads us in a better direction; "like northern stars pointing me on my way."
